• States:  AL, GA, TN, KY, LA, MS

Home to about 16% of our membership, the states of Georgia and Alabama marked the western boundary of our railroads. The SAL’s Gulf Wind ran as far west as New Orleans from Jacksonville in connection with the L&N, while the ACL’s South Wind and Dixie Flagler (and other trains) ran north to Chicago through this region. In both cases these trains operated in partnership with the Louisville & Nashville, hence the color selection. Birmingham was the western terminus of the SAL’s Silver Comet, while one of the legs of the Champion made it to Montgomery.
