Dear fellow members and friends,
The Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard Air Line Railroads Historical Society in conjunction with the Joseph Oates Family announces a Celebration of Life gathering to honor the life and achievements of Joseph Oates, our “Uncle Joe”, and co-founder of the Society. This will be held at Tampa Union Station, where Joe worked from time to time, for many hours.
If you wish to attend, please register an RSVP below with name, email, phone number and please note how many people will be in your party. This is so we can estimate a head count and contact you if there is any change. We can accommodate about 40 people and plan to have some sandwiches and beverages on hand courtesy of the Society leadership. We expect his son Tim, and wife Chris, to attend.

Date: Saturday July 15th, 2023
Time: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Location: Tampa Union Station – Station Masters Room (second floor, south side, check with guard), 601 N Nebraska Ave., Tampa, FL (Note – the only road entrance is off of Twiggs Street, on south side)
Parking: Free, on station property. Use the designated Amtrak spots south of the station, or behind the baggage building inside the fence. PLEASE NOTE – MANY SPOTS ON THE SOUTHSIDE UNDER THE EXPRESSWAY ARE CITY MONTHLY PASS HOLDER SPOTS – YOU MAY RECEIVE A SUBSTANTIAL TICKET IF YOU PARK IN THOSE SPOTS.
Note: The station is active, southbound Silver Star is due around 12:55 PM, with 50-100 off, 50-100 on.
We plan to show Joe’s last presentation, titled “The Last Picture Show” which illustrates his passion for the rails, and will likely have some other presentations. All who attend are encouraged to share their stories and memories, within the boundaries and decorum of a genteel meeting.
